Recently I posted an article on the masterpiece “The Room“, written and directed by Tommy Wiseau. From the moment the credits started to roll, I hoped and prayed for a sequel. (more…)
I was bored in a meeting the other day (go figure), so I started doodling.
Not really sure why, but I kept drawing iterations of octopuses. I scanned them up, traced them in Illustrator, and decided to post them.
Have fun with them.

If you haven’t seen the cinematic masterpiece that is The Room, I highly encourage you to do so. I had the opportunity to take in this most excellent entertainment source a couple months ago at a local midnight screening. There were spoons thrown at the screen, plot holes and continuity errors yelled out, and even a few people playing catch with a football.
For a movie that comes in at a 3/10 on IMDB and a wonderful 33% on Rotten Tomatoes, The Room is can be summed up as one of those movies that is so terrible, it’s hilarious and entertaining.
Because of this, it would only make sense that the soundtrack to this movie was incredibly cheesy and campy.
There is one song in particular that really made me chuckle, “I Will” by Clint Gamboa. No, it wasn’t because it was played during the first love scene… well, ok, maybe that was part of it. I liked this song so much, however, that I used some free time today to create a ringtone.
Enjoy.
With moving just about rapped up, there is now time to start back up on some projects in need of some love.
Constantly changing, never taking “good enough” into consideration, my portfolio has evolved so many times over the years. I’m getting thoughts together, ideas written down, designs sketched. I must say that I’ve received some great suggestions and advice at Reddit recently and hope to integrate some of the things they mentioned. I may not make my September 1st deadline I gave myself a while ago, however the final product will be worth the time and effort.
I’m also planning on fixing up and completing one of the pet projects I’ve had going for a bit now. We had completed this project a few months ago, but I was left unsatisfied. I know we can do better, I know I can do better.
Anyway, stay tuned. I’ve got some great ideas coming down the line.
Yesterday I spent about an hour and a half playing some Layer Tennis with my buddy Travis. If you’re unfamiliar with Layer Tennis, ReadWriteWeb defines it as such:
The rules of the game are simple: 2 designers go head-to-head lobbing designs back and forth and modifying each others’ work. Each designer has 15 minutes to complete his or her “volley,” and a third party provides commentary on the match.
For our match we did things a bit different. For starters we could only use Illustrator. Secondly, we didn’t have anyone commenting on the match.
As this was our first time doing this type of thing, we did falter a bit. 15 minutes to come up with a great idea, execute it is difficult. (more…)
For the past three weekends I’ve been either at a wedding or out of town or both. This summer is flying by due to all the things keeping me busy.
I spent last weekend in Pennsylvania, visiting some friends. A visit to Amish country and then catching a Jim Breuer show at a New Jersey comedy club filled our agenda on Saturday. Just the act of getting away was very peaceful and relaxing.
Next weekend I’m out of town…again. But, this should be the last time for a couple weeks at least. I’d really like to get my portfolio redesign and a few other projects finished up as soon as possible. Alas, I’ll have to put these things on the back-burner. The casualties of life it seems.
Stay tuned.
For the past two days I’ve been cranking out sketch after sketch, list after list of ideas for the next iteration of my portfolio. It’s coming along swimmingly. I’m definitely going to meet my September deadline.
Someone once told me that the moment you are happy with your portfolio, you’re behind… or something like that. I believe it. I’m never satisfied with this thing. I mean, it took me four years to get this thing from just an idea…or SEVERAL ideas… to an actual public site. With these coming changes, I’m shooting for 99% satisfaction.
More later.
The floral-print of yesteryear is slowly being stripped away, three coats of ultra-bright pink are being applied to my portfolio. There’s so much I want to do with this site, just haven’t had the chance to go about it. I’ve reorganized my free time lately to allow for the improvement of this thing.
What have I done so far, you ask? Quite a bit actually.
I redid the footer, added links to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Last.FM and the like. “What’s Will listening to this very second?” is now a question you can quickly answer without calling me up.
Another thing I did was to finally add a global navigation system. Sounds expensive. Now everyone can browse through the different categories from any page instead of having to go to a project first and then clicking the category name. Simplicity! (more…)
I’ve had a religious experience.
For the past week I’ve been hauling my Macbook to the local half-coffeeshop, half-boozery to do my freelance work. The “larger monitor is always better” motto I’ve been living my life by was finally broken. Having more than half a window on the screen at once is definitely a plus, however even with my restricted viewing area I’ve been able to crank out more work than I have… in maybe the last couple years.
Waking up early on a Saturday, eating a nice, healthy breakfast followed by a few iced teas or even Irish Coffees if you’re feeling especially alcoholic that morning… it’s bliss. I don’t often get excited about much in life, but this… this has been an experience.
Tooltips: The most complicated, fascinating subject of all time. Ok, not really.
Recently, I had a client ask me to put together some tooltips for a project they were working on. As you probably know, there are many ways to go about it, but I wanted to try my hand at it, using only CSS. These have all been tested in FF3, IE8, and Webkit.
