Mercury
Mercury started as a simple newsletter delivery system and later evolved into a full-fledged content management system utilizing the Smarty Template Engine, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, and AJAX.
The alumni association of Fort Hays State University wanted the ability to deliver a monthly newsletter to nearly 10,000 alumni. A simple newsletter delivery system was created, which then eventually, as more departments started requesting the ability to send out newsletters, grew into a full-fledged content management system as features were added and revisions were made.
In the Spring of 2007, the decision was made to use a modified version of Mercury to help out with our senior college project (Scott County Hospital). Many CMS features were added to Mercury which allowed it to run the entire Scott County Hospital site.
